Sold on a balanced diet from day uno (I’m learning Spanish at the moment so you’ll have to bear with me here)

A balance between eating ‘the right’ things and perhaps just 1 more of those dark chocolate squares

A balance between the good and the bad, the carbs, fats, and protein

Eat them 5 food groups!

Oh how Bull S*#% this information we were sold on is!

The unstable part in the heading of the article is the lie

Sounds dramatic, doesn’t it!? Well, I had to get your attention somehow!

The lie that is backed by bias marketing designed to favor the flavor of profits for health industries, of which none that have our actual health and wellbeing in their best interests

After seven years of studying and undertaking many nutrition-based subjects at three different universities, I am now beginning to understand why we’re all so confused

Misled with information back by bias research funded by industries that are out for profit. Very few if any seem to focus on fostering longer-term health and wellbeing ~ Longevity

My intention is just that

Here in the Longevity Blog is to give YOU information with additional permission to adopt a skeptical mindset on what you put into, onto and do with your body… after all, your hand is the one that feeds you

I wish to share this information to help you to break the unhealthy cycle you may be caught in

Break the habits and build healthier new ones

I will give you what you WANT, but also what you NEED

Whether it’s dropping weight, putting on healthy weight, eating a little better most of it’s here

And if it’s not?

Stay tuned, because I’m only warming up with some of these topics and a post you’ve been waiting for is just around the corner

Why the focus on weight above?

I thought it was a great place:

  1. because many of my clients have weight loss goals and
  2. upon looking into it, begin overweight/obese contributes to more co-morbidities and mortalities than any other condition on this planet

OBESITY is THE biggest killer of the human species and it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon

Circling back to the LONGEVITY aspect, I wish to share this information, so you basically don’t die from something stupid…

DEFINITION Homeostasis

Is a fancy term used to describe your ability to maintain stability in spite of changes

Put simply – To maintain balance

Balance is what the mind and body loves and needs to function

Let’s forget what the media, the nutritional guidelines, fad diets have taught you for a moment and focus on the hot topic of your weight

If you are overweight/underweight it can be assumed that you have been out of balance for a short/long time

What’s overweight/underweight?

It can be a little hard to get ‘the perfect’ figure but a rough guide for the general population can be:

  • Take your height in centimeters and minus 100 from that
  • For example, I am 175cm tall, therefore 75 is roughly my number weight in kg
  • I am actually 80kg but I participate in resistance training and have a higher than normal muscle mass for a male my age

Many things can contribute to your weight:

  • your habits
  • physiological processes
  • psychosocial health
  • energy intake
  • energy expenditure
  • your genes
  • environment
  • and many many more!

Let’s keep it simple and take a dive into the most common one and easiest one to understand

Your Energy Intake vs. your Energy Expenditure

I will use a simple analogy to explain

You are the whole scale!!!!!

The rock on the left is your energy expenditure (EE), meaning how much energy your body needs and ‘burns’ on a day to day basis to function normally

The four rocks on the right represent your energy intake (EI) from the external world. This includes what you ingest orally

There are a number of ways to lose, maintain or gain weight

Maintain Weight

A balanced of the EE (left) and EI (right)

Lose Weight

Your EE (left) is higher than your EI (right)

Your EE (left) is less than your EI (right)

For a deep dive, the following is what the scale represents on a much more sophisticated level

Imagine a large circular board balancing on a tennis ball.

You are the board, the tennis ball and all of the following things we are to balance here.

Imagine all of the following are scattered around the board.

All at random locations and distances from the middle of the board.

  • Genes
  • Physiology
  • Metabolism
  • Physical Activity
  • Stress Levels
  • Insulin Sensitivity
  • Sleep Quality
  • Sleep Quantity
  • Consumption of Calories/Kilojoules
  • Consumption or non/energy Foods and Liquids
  • Gut Bacteria
  • Thermogenesis
  • Clothing
  • Environment

On top of this, now imagine all of the above aspects of your life are weighted differently.

Lastly imagine that the weighting of a particular aspect listed above is intricately linked with all the other aspects. Meaning if you change the weighting of one of the above aspects you will alter the weight given to all other aspects.

Now imagine trying to find try to find balance!!!

You can’t!

It’s near impossible to wright a plan, give nutritional information and adopt a eating lifestyle that is 100% perfectly tailored to your specific situation

But you know what?

I’m going to give it a shot. Because I really believe there are a 5 very simple rules and guidelines that if adopted can help foster a much healthier lifestyle!

These rules focus on the three key areas of weight loss:

  • Controlling Insulin Levels
  • Boosting Metabolism
  • Eating Smart

I have given it a red-hot crack on creating a simple and easy to use guideline and want to share it with you all!
